Gemotions

John felt his pulse quicken as he saw the familiar form bounding across his lawn. He gripped the watering can so tightly his knuckles turned white. It was getting harder to breathe, a tight band around his chest. He was starting to resent the dog and, by extension, the neighbors.

He wanted to scream, to lash out, to do anything to get rid of this feeling of being constantly on edge. He stood perfectly still, his body rigid, barely breathing. This feeling of being cornered, of not being in control, was driving him crazy.

He turned and slowly walked back towards the house, the dog’s happy yips echoing in his ears. He needed to find a way to shut this out, to protect himself.
