Sweat prickled on Amelia’s forehead as she stared at the screen. The presentation slid to the final slide, a carbon copy of the one she’d painstakingly crafted over months. A tremor ran through her. Her breath hitched. Across the table, Daniel was beaming, oblivious. "And that's it!" he said, clapping his hands. "Thoughts?" Amelia found herself unable to speak, her throat suddenly constricted. She felt a cold dread creep into the pit of her stomach. The color drained from her face, she was sure of it. She slowly reached for her water bottle, her hand shaking.
