"It's just temporary," he muttered to himself, trying to believe it. He slammed the newspaper down on the table, the sharp sound echoing in the sudden quiet. He needed to get away.

He threw on his coat, the fabric feeling heavy on his shoulders. The noise, the constant disruption, had left him feeling raw, exposed. He wanted to scream.

He walked out into the street, the sun a blinding presence in the sky. He wandered aimlessly, the feeling of unease clinging to him like a second skin. He found himself walking faster and faster, hoping to outrun the feeling, to find some peace.
