A bead of sweat trickled down Marcus’s temple as he adjusted the oxygen mask. His heart hammered against his ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the sterile silence of the hospital room. He had just finished explaining the symptoms of Dysphoria-X to the concerned doctor, a condition he’d recently been diagnosed with. He wasn’t afraid, but there was a deep ache in his bones, a feeling of unease.

The doctor, a woman with tired eyes, suddenly stiffened. "Wait," she said, her voice sharp with disbelief. "You have… the same thing?" She gestured to a young woman, a nurse, who looked as if she was about to faint. "It's… it's practically unheard of."

Marcus felt a surge of energy, a bolstering tide within him. "I know," he said, his voice surprisingly firm. The nurse quickly explained she had the condition as well. He would do whatever it took to understand the disease with them. He sat up straighter, a sense of purpose flooding him, knowing they were united in this struggle. This was a challenge to be met head-on.
