He stared at the rejection letter, the words blurring through a sudden haze. This scholarship was his. It was his escape. Now, another student named David, with his connections and his privileged background, was taking his place.

He started with the easy things. He knew David’s classes, and he began to sabotage the classroom environment. A slightly-too-loud phone call during a lecture. A strategically-placed, sticky-note on a professor's desk about a forgotten assignment.

Each small action was a spark, a way to make David's life just a little bit harder, a little bit more unpleasant. He would not let him have this. He would not let him win.
