The list. Her mother's final testament. Item one: "Get that no-good, lying, cheating ex-husband, Robert, to *truly* regret his choices." The paper crackled in her hand. A dangerous glint sparked in her eyes.

She knew Robert. She knew his weaknesses. She knew his pride was his Achilles' heel.

She started small. She used her contacts in the business world to ensure he lost a lucrative deal. She then anonymously leaked a compromising photo of him to his new girlfriend, who promptly dumped him. She orchestrated a series of small, seemingly unrelated misfortunes that would collectively chip away at his life.

She never directly confronted him. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction. Instead, she left him to stew in the slow burn of his own unraveling.
