Maya felt a persistent tingle of excitement as she prepared for the evening. Her house was spotless, flowers adorned the table, and the aroma of her favorite perfume lingered in the air. Tonight, Liam, her partner, was coming over. She was filled with a sense of pure delight.

When he arrived, she felt like she was buzzing. His smile was infectious, but then he started talking to her in her language, a language she thought he barely knew.
