Gemotions

The doorbell rang, a sharp, unwelcome intrusion. Through the peephole, she saw the delivery man, holding a package. She hesitated, her hand hovering over the lock. The name on the label, "D. Finch," meant nothing to her, a ghost from the past. Her gaze moved to the surrounding houses. Their windows seemed like watching eyes.

She decided to let it sit. The package remained outside, a silent threat. After what seemed like an eternity, she ventured back out, armed with a baseball bat from her closet. The delivery man was gone. She dragged the box inside, her jaw set, her senses on high alert.

Back in her home, she set the box down, the weight of the unknown pressing down on her. The silence was deafening, amplified by the ticking clock. She looked at it for a long time, the paper on the box rippling slightly in a silent breeze.
