Gemotions

The elevator ground to a halt between floors, the lights cutting out with a crackle. "Oh, crap," muttered Jessica, her voice a little breathless. She hadn't expected this. She couldn't let herself be caught off guard.

Her gaze fixed on the control panel, her eyes searching for any clue. She pressed the emergency button, holding it down for a long moment, as if the sustained pressure might somehow force a response. She was prepared. She had to be.

Her hands moved over the metal surfaces, feeling for any sign of a malfunction or a potential escape. She’d seen this happen on the news before. She wasn't going to be some victim. She'd get herself out of this.
