The elevator shuddered and then stilled, the silence broken only by their ragged breathing. “I hate this,” Robert groaned. Across from him, Karen’s face was set, determined. She was already working.

Her eyes darted around the confined space, assessing the situation. She ran her hands along the wall, feeling for a seam, a crack, anything. She tapped on the doors, listening for any hollow sound that might indicate a weakness.

"Are there any lights?" she asked, her voice low and tense. Her mind raced, calculating the options, weighing the risks. She would not submit. This was a challenge. She would be ready.
