Watch: Dynamic Visual Layouts
Dynamic visual layout (DVL) is a generative user interface where layouts are created on demand to suit specific queries, shifting the focus from SEO to information.

For two decades, search engine optimization was about fitting information into fixed layouts. We built the blog templates, the product pages, and the calculators, and then we filled them with content. But that era is ending.
Google is inverting this process with something called Dynamic Visual Layout, or DVL. With DVL, the user interface no longer exists before you search. Instead, it is generated live, in response to your query. If you ask how a complex concept works, the AI does not just find a web page. It writes code to build a custom, interactive experience right then and there. Once you are done, that interface dissolves. There is no permanent URL, no page to rank, and nothing to index.
This means static assets like infographics, interactive calculators, and comparison charts are becoming obsolete. The AI can generate a superior, personalized container on demand.
To survive this shift, we have to pivot. We must move from formatting to structure. The value now lies in the substance of the information itself—its accuracy, depth, and organization. Our goal must be to become the reliable source material that the AI synthesizes. We need to focus on what AI cannot replicate, like primary research, proprietary data, and lived experience.
The layout is no longer a constraint. It is a variable. The search engine of the future is not a list of links, but a series of fleeting, custom-built experiences.
