Watch: Brand Reputation
The sentiment attached to a brand wherever it is discussed, and what an AI model says about a brand once it has recalled it.
Transcript
In the age of artificial intelligence, brand reputation has taken on a new meaning. It is no longer just about whether an AI model remembers your brand, but what the model actually says about you once it does.
This is the difference between brand authority and brand reputation. Authority is what gets you mentioned in the first place. Reputation is whether that mention helps or hurts you.
A brand can have high authority and still be recalled alongside a major scandal or lawsuit. That is why simply counting mentions or measuring your share of voice is not enough. Those are just measures of volume. True reputation is built from what is inside the AI’s training data and search results, including news stories, reviews, and forum complaints.
Because AI models compress all of this information into a single summary, one widely covered negative event can dominate your brand’s description for a very long time.
Managing this is not about what you assert about yourself. It is about what the training data actually contains. To fix a damaged reputation in the eyes of an AI, you have to correct the record where the original coverage lives. Publishing a rebuttal that no one cites will not help.
If an AI model learns to hedge its opinion about your brand, the consequences are real. It might remember who you are perfectly, but still refuse to recommend you.
