Grounded search responses are model outputs generated when live web retrieval tools—such as Google Search or web search tools—are enabled during inference. In addition to the synthesized answer text, these responses return structured grounding metadata containing search queries, retrieved web source chunks, and character-level segment mappings that bind individual claims to specific cited URLs.
