The DEJAN app has launched a new feature called Ablation, now open to all users within the Content Optimizer. This tool helps you understand exactly how individual sentences in a source document affect its in-context ranking, and with it its selection rate, when cited by an Artificial Intelligence. It works by taking a prompt and running it on Google, OpenAI, or Claude. The tool grabs the sources the AI cited, breaks the top source into smaller text spans, and runs multiple ranking tests with different combinations of these spans removed. By measuring the changes, it calculates the exact ranking value of each sentence. In a recent test for a search volatility tool, the analysis showed that just one sentence about real-time diagnosis accounted for the article's entire ranking gain. Surprisingly, two other sentences on the page actually dragged the ranking down. The Ablation tool allows you to test either short search snippets or full web pages, choose different search locations, and set a cost cap for the run. You can find this new feature by heading to the Content Optimizer section in the DEJAN app and selecting the Ablation tab.
