When we search the internet today, we are no longer just looking at a list of blue links. Instead, AI assistants, voice search, and smart search engines are giving us direct answers.
This shift has created a new practice called Answer Engine Optimization, or AEO. The goal of AEO is to optimize your content so it becomes the precise answer an AI engine serves to a user. Instead of trying to get someone to click on your website, you are trying to be the cited or quoted source for a specific question.
You might also hear this concept called Generative Engine Optimization, or AI SEO. But whatever you call it, the ultimate goal is AI visibility. It is about making sure your brand and your information show up prominently across all AI-generated answers. To win in this new landscape, you have to stop writing just for search engines, and start writing direct, authoritative answers for the AI engines that query them.
