When you ask ChatGPT for real-time information, it can browse the web to find the answers. This process begins with a search query, usually powered by Bing. Once the search results are in, the system doesn't just look at one page. Instead, it selects a diverse group of at least three, and up to ten, trustworthy websites to scrape simultaneously. This helps the AI gather different perspectives and ensures the information is reliable.
If a webpage fails to load, the system automatically handles the error by skipping it and trying an alternative link. If the initial search results are not ideal, ChatGPT can dynamically refine its search terms to find better sources.
In some cases, the model can open a specific web address directly if you provide one. But it also relies heavily on search indexes, sometimes even accessing cached versions of pages to retrieve what it needs.
Finally, the AI synthesizes all this gathered data into a clear response and formats the sources as citations. This structured approach allows ChatGPT to deliver accurate, up-to-date answers while maintaining transparency.
