Watch: Grounding Snippet Ablation
Measuring how many rank places each part of an AI-cited source's text is worth, by ranking the cited sources many times with different parts removed.
Transcript
How much is a single sentence worth to an AI's search ranking? A process called grounding snippet ablation can tell us exactly. It measures how many ranking positions each part of a cited source is worth.
To do this, the system ranks the cited sources over and over again. Each time, it removes a different combination of text. It then calculates a value for each section, representing the average rank places a source gains when that specific text is present.
Testing single removals on their own, like deleting just one sentence, never changed the top ranking in tests. To see the real impact, you have to measure these pieces across many different combinations.
In one search example, a single sentence was responsible for a gain of about one full ranking position, while two other sections actually dragged the ranking down.
This analysis is now available in DEJAN's Content Optimizer under the Ablation tab.
