Watch: Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

The practice of improving a page's visibility in unpaid search results through technical, content, and authority work; its foundations still underpin AI visibility because AI systems retrieve from the same web.

Transcript

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, has always been about making web pages visible in unpaid search results. Traditionally, this relies on three things: technical setup so search crawlers can index your site, content that matches what people search for, and authority built through trusted links.

Even with the rise of artificial intelligence, these foundations still hold true. AI systems answer questions by retrieving pages from the exact same web index. If an AI crawler cannot reach your page, understand your content, or trust your site, you will remain invisible. Crawlability, relevance, and authority are still prerequisites.

What is changing is the target. Instead of optimizing for a list of links for a person to click on, we are now optimizing to be retrieved, used, and cited inside a generated AI answer.

This is not a replacement for traditional SEO, but an extension of it. We call this new goal AI visibility. Other terms, like Answer Engine Optimization and Generative Engine Optimization, point to this exact same shift. The foundations remain, but the destination has evolved.
